The 2015 CASEL Guide: Effective Social and Emotional Learning Programs—Middle and High School Edition identifies school-based programs that have been evaluated with middle and high school students and that promote students’ personal and social competence.
Heart of Learning Teaching Manual: The Heart of Learning and Teaching - Compassion, Resiliency, and Academic Success Using the “ compassionate teaching approach,” this carefully nuanced and clearly written book represents an unprecedented collaboration among public school, university, and Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction educational professionals. This rich publication demonstrates that we can overcome the silos of our different fields to provide schools with the support they need to help all children learn. With its excellent analysis of teaching approaches, it argues for supporting—not blaming—educators who work daily to help children become competent learners despite the enormous barriers posed by traumatic experiences. This work marks a milestone for Washington State and contributes significantly to bringing the trauma-sensitive schools movement to the next level. Trauma Responsive Educational Practices Project (TREP): According to the site, The TREP Project works to connect the brain and behavior research on complex or developmental trauma with the realities of school and classroom management. We aim to create schools and classrooms that can meet the socioemotional and academic needs of not one or two students who have been exposed to traumatic levels of chronic stress, but the needs of a classroom full of traumatized children.
